Head of DFR calls on international observers to participate in monitoring the 2018 Iraqi Parliamentary Elections

Erbil, Kurdistan Region ( – In preparation for the 2018 Iraqi Parliamentary Elections, the Head of the Electoral Commission of Kurdistan Region Section, Mr. Mazin Abdulqadir, yesterday visited KRG Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Falah Mustafa. The meeting was also attended by the Assistant Head of the DFR, Ms. Siham Mamand.

Head of the Kurdistan’s Electoral Commission gave an overview of the components of the Independent High Elections Commission, the importance of the bio-metric registration of voters, the conduct-mechanism of the election through use of  new technology regulation system that address the voter registration process by taking necessary steps to speed up election results announcement.

"At the regional level, 64% of voters have already registered in the bio-metric system"  Mr. Abdulqadir said. He also stressed on the important role that media can play in disproving of the advertisements for the election campaigns.

Mr. Abdulqadir additionally touched upon the need to register the international teams in the High Electoral Commission after obtaining approval from the relevant authorities to monitor all stages of the electoral process.

Minister Mustafa expressed the readiness of the DFR for cooperation with the commission to serve a successful and peaceful election process.

Minister Mustafa also emphasized on the importance of the participation of a large number of international observers and international media agencies to monitor the process closely, he also said that the DFR will cooperate and coordinate with the Foreign Offices in KRI, International Agencies and KRG Representatives to providing the facilities for those who are interested in election monitoring.

Delegation of the Netherlands Foreign Ministry visit DFR

Ms. Mamand briefed the delegation on the latest political developments and dialogue process between Erbil and Baghdad. She also expressed KRG’s desire to strengthen ties with Kingdom of the Netherlands and the importance of the presence of the Dutch Consulate General  in Erbil. The assistant head also extended the willingness of DFR in seeking closer collaboration in various fields between Kurdistan Region and the Netherlands.
