KRG Representative in Poland opens the International conference on the Role of Kurds in the Middle East

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq ( – On May 14, The International Conference on the Role of Kurds in the Middle East was held in Collegium Civitas University in Warsaw, co-organized by Representation of Kurdistan Regional Government in Poland and under the patronage of KRG Representation.

The conference started with the speech given by Mr. Ziyad Raoof KRG Representative to Poland, who welcomed guests and thanked them for their presence. He touched upon the current situation of the Kurds with last year. He also noted that there were negative developments for Kurds, but at the same time the Kurdish issue after the referendum was further internationalized. ‘it is impossibleto achieve lasting peace in the Middle East without a political solution satisfying Kurdish aspirations’ he added.


KRG Representative to Poland concluded his speech by claiming the role of Kurds in Iraq - and more broadly in the entire Middle East - can not be underestimated, the attempts to marginalize them brings negative effects for the entire region, destabilize the situation in Europe and around the world.

Along with the above-mentioned conference, prof. Michiel Leezenberg from University of Amsterdam presented a lecture entitled “state and society in the Kurdistan Region 1991-2018”. Meanwhile, The frame of the conference composed of four panel discussions: “the diverse aspects of Kurdish policy”, “identity, society and culture”, “security & defence”, “facing others, the various dimensions of international relations”. There was also the lecture about Yezidi.  In all, in the conference took part twelve speakers, the lectures were at a high level and each panel closed an interesting discussion.


At the end of the conference, the opening of the photo exhibition in the headquarters of Representation of KRG was held made by Dr. Przemysław Kosowski: Kurdistan (1940s) in the lens of traveler, diplomat and orientalist Witold Rajkowski (1910-1957?).

London, United Kingdom ( –  The Kurdistan Regional Government High Representative to the United Kingdom, H.E Karwan Jamal Tahir addressed the audience at reception held at the British Museum on Friday 3 August 2018 to celebrate the fifth round of the British Museum’s Iraq Scheme, a UK government backed training programme designed to establish dedicated corps of Iraqis and Kurdish heritage professionals, skilled to deal with the aftermath of the destruction of archaeological sites in the Kurdistan Region and other parts of Iraq.
