KRG Representative in Poland attends Lech Walesa’ 75th birthday and the 35th anniversary of his Nobel Peace Prize

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – Ziyad Raoof KRG Representative in Poland together with a large group of guests from Poland and abroad attended a solemn celebration of Lech Walesa 75th birthday and the 35th anniversary of receiving Nobel Peace Prize On Saturday, September 29.

The event took place in the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdansk. President Masoud Barzani was also invited to the ceremony in Gdansk, due to the elections in Kurdistan; he did not arrive in Poland. However, he wrote a special congratulatory letter and wishes personally conveyed to Lech Walesa by Ziyad Raoof KRG Representative in Poland.

Lech Walesa met the KRG Representative on several occasions in Poland, he always declared his sympathy and support for the Kurdish issue, he was also invited to Kurdistan in 2013 for the anniversary commemoration of Anfal, but for health reasons, his visit fell through.

Lech Walesa is one of the most recognizable Polish politicians in the world, the legendary leader of the "Solidarity" movement. He contributed to the peaceful overthrow of communism in Poland, which led to further great changes: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War and the democratization of Central and Eastern Europe. In the years 1990-1995, Lech Walesa was the president of Poland, later he remained an influential figure working for democracy and defending human rights all over the world. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his activity
