KRG DFR hosted the UK APPG for the presentation and launch of the APPG fact-finding report on Kurdistan 'Robust Pragmatism and Internal Reform'

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) - The Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) hosted Gary Kent, Secretary of the United Kingdom All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the presentation and launch of the APPG’s fact-finding report on Kurdistan, “Robust Pragmatism and Internal Reform”. The UK APPG promote friendship and understanding between the people of the Kurdistan Region and the UK and encourage the development of democratic institutions in the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting was headed by Minister Falah Mustafa, the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, Assistant Head, Siham Mamand and Gary Kent. Also in attendance were representatives from foreign diplomatic missions in the Kurdistan Region, KRG representatives, and parliamentarians.

 

The Head of the DFR highlighted the APPG’s contribution to promoting the Kurdistan Region and helping to foster stronger ties with the U.K. The Minister welcomed the report and described it as a positive step to furthering the development and prosperity of the Region, he thanked the APPG and its Secretary, Gary Kent in this regard.

The Secretary of the APPG on Kurdistan gave a summary of the report and included the findings of 15 visits made to the Kurdistan Region by Members of the UK Parliament. Gary Kent highlighted the efforts of the APPG, in cooperation with the KRG UK representation office and members of the British House of Representatives, in improving relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UK in areas of trade, economic and cultural relations.

He also stressed the significance of religious pluralism, promoting gender equality and implementing reform as a process of effective development in institutions. “Kurdistan Region is known for its openness and religious pluralism, and has taken many good steps in this regard” he added.

The Head of the DFR concluded the presentation by emphasizing on the significance of the APPG’s report and their visit to the Kurdistan Region. The Secretary of the APPG reiterated his appreciation to the Kurdistan Region for its cooperation and hospitality.
