Czechia Marks National Day reception in Erbil

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – The Head of the Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Minister Falah Mustafa and the Assistant Head, Siham Mamand attended, upon invitation, the celebration of the Czech Republic’s National Day and the 100th anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia held by the Consulate General of the Republic of Czech to the Kurdistan Region in Erbil.

The reception was also attended by Ministers, Members of Parliament, Governors, members of the diplomatic corps and foreign representatives in the Region and other senior officials. 

The Consul General of the Czech Republic in Erbil, Michal Svoboda in his opening speech welcomed guests to the celebration and provided an overview on the history and culture of the Czech Republic that led to their independence.

In addressing relations between the Czech Republic and the Kurdistan Region, the Consul General, Svoboda highlighted the historic ties between both sides and said “Kurdistan Region and the Czech Republic has in between a good tradition and a special bond, friendship of people working together on the projects, friendship of engineers, and friendship of families.” The Consul General reminded attendees that the Czech Republic was also the first country to open a liaison office in the Kurdistan Region.

 

“Czechia has been paying attention to the Kurdistan Region and will continue to do so in coming years.” Michal Svoboda, the Consul General of the Republic of Czech added that Czech companies are looking again into opportunities to return to the Region. He also said that the Consulate General of the Republic of Czech in Erbil is working closely with KRG in many fields of cooperation, in particular, focusing on education, development and mutual business support.

The Czech Ambassador to Iraq, Jan Vyčítal also delivered a speech welcoming guests and briefed them on the revolutions and sacrifices made by Czechs and Slovaks in gaining their independence. The Ambassador to the Czech Republic expressed his optimism at the existing ties between the Republic of Czech and the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and hoped to further develop bilateral relations.

Minister Mustafa, who spoke on behalf of the KRG, welcomed the participants and congratulated the government and people of the Czech Republic on the celebration of their National Day and the 100th anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia. The Minister thanked the Czech Consulate General in Erbil for hosting the event and for its unwavering commitment to strengthening relations with the Kurdistan Region.

Minister Mustafa also expressed his appreciation to the Czech Republic for their continued humanitarian and military support given to the Region in the fight against ISIS. The Minister praised the contribution of the Czech education system in Erbil, namely the Ostrava Technical University and hoped that it continues to play a pivotal role in promoting the importance of education in the Region.

Minister Mustafa emphasized that the KRG believes in maintaining a healthy and functioning relationship with the Federal Government within the framework of the Constitution and welcomes the newly formed government in Baghdad and a swift governmental process in Erbil too.

Minister Mustafa added that there are still around 1.4 million refugees and IDPs residing in the Region that remains a safe haven for refugees and IDPs and that offers stability and security, stressing that they continue to be under the care of the KRG. Minister Mustafa called on the international community to assist in the immediate well being of IDPs and of their safe, dignified and voluntary return to their homes.

The Minister concluded by expressing his optimism on the level of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Czech Republic and expressed his hope to further develop ties and bilateral cooperation




Head of DFR meets with Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – A delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia headed by Judha Nugraha visited the Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and was received by the Head of DFR, Minister Falah Mustafa to discuss means of enhancing the activities of the Republic of Indonesia in the Kurdistan Region.

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) –The Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Falah Mustafa and Assistant Head, Siham Mamand received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Iraq, Maksim Maksimov, accompanied by Russian Consul General to Kurdistan Region, Viktor Simakov. The two sides discussed the latest Kurdistan Region and Iraq political developments, updated on post-KRG parliamentary elections, the formation of the Erbil and Baghdad governments and Erbil-Baghdad relations.
