Head of KRG DFR, Minister Falah Mustafa attends IISS Manama Dialogue 2018 – 14th regional security summit in Bahrain

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – Falah Mustafa Bakir, Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) attended the 14th session of the Manama Dialogue Conference. The Middle East's premier security summit took place in Bahrain’s capital city, Manama on 26–28 October 2018. Minister Mustafa was welcomed at the Manama International Airport by Ambassador Abdulaziz Alied, Head of Arab Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Salah al-Malki, Ambassador of Bahrain in Iraq to address the Region's most pressing governance challenges among some of the most powerful policymakers from the Middle East and beyond.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Manama Dialogue 2018, hosted by Bahrain for the 14th time since 2004 is held annually in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, and provides a platform for many government officials, businessmen, international figures, economists and political and strategic thinkers from all over the world to exchange views on regional security challenges in the Middle East.

 

In addition to attending the conference, Minister Mustafa held meetings with a number of ministers and officials where he highlighted the importance of strategic dialogue, the changes have taken place in the Kurdistan Region, and Erbil – Baghdad relations. The Minister also exchanged views on the recent political developments in the Kurdistan Region and current issues in the area with the Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, U.S. Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, German Defence Minister, Ursula von der Leyen, British Defence Minister, Tobias Ellwood,  British Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Alistair Burt, Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS at the U.S. Department of State, Brett McGurk, Romanian state Minister and many other delegations in this regard.

Whilst attending the IISS Manama Dialogue, Minister Mustafa also participated in a dinner hosted by the Foreign Minister of Bahrain and met with the head of foreign delegations and guests, this created opportunities to discuss various regional strategies, developments and practical ways of cooperation.

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – A delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia headed by Judha Nugraha visited the Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and was received by the Head of DFR, Minister Falah Mustafa to discuss means of enhancing the activities of the Republic of Indonesia in the Kurdistan Region.

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) –The Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Falah Mustafa and Assistant Head, Siham Mamand received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Iraq, Maksim Maksimov, accompanied by Russian Consul General to Kurdistan Region, Viktor Simakov. The two sides discussed the latest Kurdistan Region and Iraq political developments, updated on post-KRG parliamentary elections, the formation of the Erbil and Baghdad governments and Erbil-Baghdad relations.

This year’s discussion highlighted the political developments and issues related to the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the Middle East.
