Falah Mustafa meets Canada Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Director for Iraq and Syria

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – Ms. Pegatha Taylor, the Deputy Director for Iraq and Syria at Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Minister Falah Mustafa on May 20th, to review the latest political developments and her country’s commitment to Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Ms. Taylor stressed Canada’s commitment to its relations with Baghdad and Erbil, under the strategy announced by the Canadian government. The purpose of her visit was to review the latest activities of Canada’s diplomatic missions, and the ties with Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Minister Mustafa highlighted the progress of Canada-Kurdistan relations, in particular, the cooperation on the war against ISIS and post-conflict priorities, and the need for a strategic plan for the reconstruction of liberated areas to provide basic services.

Minister Mustafa thanked the people and government of Canada for participating in the international coalition against ISIS and providing humanitarian aid to refugees and displaced persons. He asked that Canada continue its work on issues related to society, development, coexistence, stability, and capacity-building. He also gave a brief on the latest political and security developments in Kurdistan and beyond.

Ms. Taylor was accompanied by Ms Nancy Bergeron, Head of Canada’s Embassy Office in Erbil. Ms Siham Mamand, the Assistant Head of the DFR, also participated in the meeting.

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (DFR.GOV.KRD) –  The KRG Department of Foreign Relations coordinated with the Iraqi Federal Foreign Ministry, under the directive of the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, to help 118 citizens from Mosul and Kirkuk stranded who are in Saudi Arabia for Umrah due to the Coronavirus pandemic safely return home through Erbil International Airport. They returned directly to Mosul and Kirkuk by bus.

This pivotal resolution called on the former Iraqi regime to end violent repression of its citizens, especially the people of Iraqi Kurdistan. In immediate response to this resolution, a dozen countries formed a coalition to provide security and humanitarian assistance to citizens from Iraqi Kurdistan who fled to neighboring countries.

 

 

139 Kurdistani citizens from Sweden and 84 others from Emirates safely returns home

The processes of repatriating Kurdistani citizens are coordinated between the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations and the Iraqi Federal Foreign Affairs Ministry with the KRG’s Representation in Sweden; the KRG Representation in Baghdad; the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Embassy in Iraq and the and the Iraqi Airways.

A group of Kurdistani citizens safely returns home from Germany and the UK

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (http://DFR.GOV.KRD) –  Under the directives of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, a number of Kurdish citizens stranded abroad due to the suspension of air traffic have safely returned home to the Kurdistan Region. The exact numbers count 107 people from Germany and 163 from the United Kingdom.
