Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – Minister Falah Mustafa on 17th June welcomed the first ever Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cyprus assigned to the Kurdistan Region Mr. Ibrahim Sindi to mark the start of his official duties in Erbil.
Mr. Sindi’s posting begins following a request from the Republic of Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, which was approved by the Iraqi Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Minister Mustafa, Head of the KRG DFR, welcomed and congratulated the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cyprus, wished him success in his work and assured him of the DFR’s full support in performing his duties in the Region.
The Minister outlined the Kurdistan Region’s open door policy towards the international community and the continuously increasing number of foreign representations and consulates in the Region. The bilateral ties with Cyprus mark another step in the progress of Kurdistan’s international relations, he said. He added that Cyprus, as a member of the European Union, can play an important role in Kurdistan by transferring the expertise of its institutions and companies in many areas.
Mr. Sindi presented a brief on the economic and trade potential of Cyprus and conveyed the optimism of Cyprus’s Foreign Ministry about developing its relations with the Kurdistan Region at many levels.
Minister Dizayee ends a productive week in Washington with senior US Administration meetings
