Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received a delegation from the Netherlands led by the Ambassador to Iraq, Matthijs Wolters.
The Ambassador stated that the Netherlands is fully committed to supporting the security of the Kurdistan region as part of the US-led Coalition against Islamic State. He outlined proposals to work with partners including the UK, Germany and US to support the reform of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. The Prime Minister welcomed the Ambassador’s comments, stating that the new government has a clear plan in place to integrate, modernise and strengthen the armed forces.
The Ambassador went on to emphasise the Netherlands’ interest in investment opportunities in the Kurdistan region, in particular in the agriculture sector. The Prime Minister noted in response that economic diversification was a key focus for the new government, with agriculture a priority sector. In this regard, the Prime Minister welcomed the support of international partners, noting that foreign investment was crucial to supporting the diversification process.
