Romanian Consular Office hosts National Day and Great Union Day celebration of the Republic of Romania in Erbil

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (dfr.gov.krd) – On Monday, 4th December 2018 the Consulate Office of the Republic of Romania in Erbil held a special ceremony on the occasion of the Centenary of the Romanian Great Union Day. , KRG officials, members of Parliament, representatives of foreign countries and a number of distinguished guests were in attendance.

The opening speech was delivered by the Head of the Consular Office of the Republic of Romania in Erbil, Andrei Stanescu where he welcomed guests and congratulated the people and friends of Romania.

 

Iacob Prada, Ambassador of Romania to Iraq delivered a statement and highlighted the historical event that took place on the 1st of December 1918, when the Romanian province, Transylvania, decided to join to the other two parts - Moldova and Muntenia, and establish the modern state of Romania.

The Ambassador of Romania to Iraq talked about the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and said that the efforts and sacrifices of the Iraqi Military, Peshmerga forces, and security members will not be forgotten and deserves the appreciation and full support from people all over the world. He also expressed the willingness of his country to assist in rebuilding Iraqi society, promoting traditional cooperation in education and a culture based on democratic principles.

 

The Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, Falah Mustafa gave a speech on behalf of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) and congratulated the people and government of Romania on the centennial anniversary of their Great Union Day. Declaring the Kurdistan Region’s appreciation for the support of its international partners despite the hardships endured throughout recent years. The Head of DFR thanked the Republic of Romania for providing humanitarian and military assistance during the war against ISIS, and said: “Kurdistan Region stands committed to bolstering relations with its partners in the international community”.

 

With regards to the recent political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, Minister Mustafa stated that after a successful process of Parliamentary elections and forming the next governments of Erbil and Baghdad, the KRG looks forward to working with all of its neighbors and partners in securing a brighter future for all who reside in the Region.

To conclude, Minister Mustafa expressed his hope of strengthening cooperation and promoting development between the Kurdistan Region and Romania through mutually beneficial initiatives from the private and public sectors in areas such as education, investment, and development.

Department of Foreign Relations extends deepest condolences on the passing of Egypt’s Consul in the Kurdistan Region
