Head of DFR meets with Head of UNHCR in Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – Minister Falah Mustafa Bakir, the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, met with Head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Iraq, Mr. Bruno Guido on 12 April 2018.

During the meeting, both sides underlined the importance of raising concerns about refugees and IDPs in Iraq and Kurdistan stressing means of improving their living conditions and restoring a sense of hope within them.

Minister Mustafa expressed his appreciation and gratitude to UNHCR for the assistance provided to Kurdistan Region, which alleviated a heavy burden on the KRG caused by war on terror and large waves of refugees and IDPs.

United Nations High Commissioner thanked people and Government of the Kurdistan Region for hosting large numbers of displaced persons and refugees in the Region, despite their impact and pressures leading to economic hardships. He also emphasized recent efforts of the High Commission to work on the return of the displaced communities,  back to their homes.

The meeting concluded by touching upon the latest political developments and the current situation in the Kurdistan Region, highlighting the progress of the talks between Erbil and Baghdad.

The meeting was also attended by the Assistant Head of the DFR, Ms. Siham Mamand.

The delegation, which was headed by Mr Georges Dallemagne Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, came to exchange views and assess the current developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider region.
