MOSCOW – Head of KRG DFR meets with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – By invitation from the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa,  Mikhail Bogdanov, the Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations with his accompanying delegation paid an official visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on 22 May, 2018.

Head of DFR, Minister Mustafa expressed his deep appreciation for the kind invitation and described the exchange of views as a good opportunity to furthering the existing bilateral relations.  The Minister highlighted the close bond between Kurdistan Region and the Russian Federation; he also thanked the Russian Consulate General in the Region and the Russian Embassy in Baghdad for their efforts in enhancing and deepening the bilateral ties.

During the course of the meeting, Minister Mustafa provided the Deputy Foreign Minister with a brief overview over the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region in general. Then, he touched upon the active participation of the Kurdistan Region in the most recent Iraqi Parliamentary Elections and in the formation process of the new cabinet according to the Iraqi constitution.

 

The Minister also added that the Kurdistan Region is committed to cooperation on the basis of the Iraqi Constitution, dialogue and mutual understanding between Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government of Iraq. Minister emphasized that Kurdistan Region has vigorously worked to defend its rights, moving forward, we need continued support from our partners in the International Community.

Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, expressed his pleasure for the visit and the prosperous partnership between the people of Kurdistan and the Russian Federation. He also welcomed the decision made by Kurdistan Region to participate in the elections of Iraqi Council of Representatives and contribute to efforts of improvement in regards to relations between Erbil and Baghdad. The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s determination to continue to further strengthen the existing strong bilateral relations.

The Deputy Foreign Minister additionally emphasized that the normalization of relations between Erbil and Baghdad provides both sides with significant advantages. At the same time, stability throughout the country is also important for Russia and the work of Russian companies in the Kurdistan Region and throughout Iraq, Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov added.

The two sides exchanged views on topics of mutual interest to promote peace, stability and prosperity at the regional and global levels, including political and economic affairs, and in the fields of commerce, culture and education. They also reaffirmed their common aspiration to deepen and enhance their bilateral cooperation.

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (DFR.GOV.KRD) –  The KRG Department of Foreign Relations coordinated with the Iraqi Federal Foreign Ministry, under the directive of the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, to help 118 citizens from Mosul and Kirkuk stranded who are in Saudi Arabia for Umrah due to the Coronavirus pandemic safely return home through Erbil International Airport. They returned directly to Mosul and Kirkuk by bus.

This pivotal resolution called on the former Iraqi regime to end violent repression of its citizens, especially the people of Iraqi Kurdistan. In immediate response to this resolution, a dozen countries formed a coalition to provide security and humanitarian assistance to citizens from Iraqi Kurdistan who fled to neighboring countries.

 

 

139 Kurdistani citizens from Sweden and 84 others from Emirates safely returns home

The processes of repatriating Kurdistani citizens are coordinated between the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations and the Iraqi Federal Foreign Affairs Ministry with the KRG’s Representation in Sweden; the KRG Representation in Baghdad; the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Embassy in Iraq and the and the Iraqi Airways.

 

Prime Minister Barzani chairs cabinet meeting, calls for constitutional solution to problems with Baghdad

A group of Kurdistani citizens safely returns home from Germany and the UK

The exact numbers count 107 people from Germany and 163 from the United Kingdom.
